Think of what your family does to prepare for Christmas. Does the tree go up? What about decorations? Is there a favorite recipe that comes out this time of year?  How do you prepare for Christmas each year?

Looking means to see something with an intention.  It means to pay attention to what you see. 

The story of the Magi takes us back all the way to the Old Testament when Israel was exiled to Persia and Daniel became the third ruler and head of the religious leaders in Persia.  (see Daniel 5:29).   Six hundred years before the Messiah came, the Persian religious leaders were looking to the stars for the arrival of the Messiah.   When the star appeared, the Magi went in pursuit of their King.  The gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh were also prophetic, speaking of our Lord's offices of king, priest, and savior.  Gold speaks of His kingship; frankincense was a spice used in the priestly duties; and myrrh was an embalming ointment anticipating His death. 

God placed a giant star in the sky to guide people to Bethlehem to worship Jesus. God desires for people to pursue him, and it always requires us to look to his Son.  That is his design. He did it then and is still doing it now.
